Egyptian customers call the product by its local name, and a bot trained on a formal catalog answers "not found." For one Alexandria store the killer was "بلوفر" (pullover) — the catalog only carried "pullover" in English, so every customer typing the real word hit a dead end. The fix: add a dialect alias list to the product catalog — every product gets its MSA name, its Egyptian name, and the Arabic-English mixed version customers actually type.

Failure 3: Replying in MSA to a Gulf customer

A Saudi customer types "بكم التوصيل للرياض" (how much is delivery to Riyadh) and gets a formal Egyptian-flavored response. It is readable, but it reads foreign — and the customer's next message is usually "في حد عربي هنا؟" (is there a real Arabic speaker here?). The fix: the system prompt must instruct the AI to detect the customer's dialect from the opening message and stay in it for the whole conversation — Egyptian, Saudi, or Gulf — never defaulting to MSA.

The four-message test for any Arabic AI
